Reaching

I shared this perspective exploder with Mark and Doris, then Doris sent me back this, from a talk by Laurie Anderson.

You know what I like about the stars, we can't hurt them. We can't bruise them or blow them up. They exist so far away and nothing we do or say or make can harm them in any way. They are safe from us. But... we are reaching for the stars. We are reaching...

I know this has nothing whatever to do with the levitating home....what are your thoughts on the media firestorm erupting from a tiny Florida church set on burning the Koran? You've spent a great deal of time on story, and message and I'd be interested on your view with this madness. I find it very perplexing that a few fringe individuals can spark potential violence across the globe. Media, it seems, has power far beyond rational thought or decency.

PS

May we have occasion to enjoy our lives in a small Portland neighborhood; to walk our pets, watch children play, observe the flora and fauna found all around us and to live in peace. Lets get to know each other as friends, lets do something great together as neighbors, lets contribute to a just and caring society that our children may enjoy....

Man I read a book that blew my mind last night. Strauss/Howe's Fourth Turning - given to me in 1997 by Harry Jacobs... Picked up again because of some work I'm doing with Mssrs. Barden & Lanahan on a communications effort around getting America back on the plot again... This book I can't recommend enough for people bewildered by these times...

In 1997, Strauss and Howe predicted everything from terror attacks to financial collapse to a president that looks a lot like Obama, to the continued economic woes + Tea Party movement...

They offer a guideline on how we best prepare for the coming "Saeculum" - America's fourth period of collapse/rebirth. It's sobering but filled with optimism. Great stuff... Looks a lot like wisdom to me...

hey Jelly-
Haven't checked out the blog in awhile (shunning the computer while trying to eek out the last of the summer fun) and I really enjoyed the link with the planet perspective.

It was also great to see your tweet about the Fourth Turning – one of my favorites. I mentioned it to you some time ago because I can't get enough of it and I use the knowledge presented all the time. I'm particularly interested in the personality traits and perspectives of the each of the generations identified and how that in turn leads to communication breakdowns (and more).

Of course as an Xer I bristle at generalizations about our behavior but the accuracy cannot be ignored. I expect the next few years will present many situations in which the different approaches to crisis by the generations will become much more pronounced.

If you haven't already checked out Neil Howe's blog you should: http://blog.lifecourse.com.

http://the-forbidden-question.blogspot.com/2010/09/journey-of-single-woman.html I love what you wrote...and the perspective of how destructive men can be. I have just started a global challenge...for men. Somehow I want to challenge the status quo...and look at our ways to get us to stop our controlling systems...to think.

Thanks for the comments.

Yeah, I am knocked out by how prescient it is... In 1997 they predict the terrorist attacks, the Bush administration and its philosophy, the economic meltdown, a president that sounds a whole lot like Obama, the continued economic meltdown, the Tea Party, on and on...

Even more, he predicts the tone of the time in a way that resonates...

Marilyn, if you're working in the area of transformation - there's plenty of work ahead!
